Challenge Week 1--Finished Circle Quilt

Amy of Amy's Creative Side is full of great ideas! Last week she hosted the first One Thing, One Week Challenge. Once a month, participants can choose one project to focus on for one week and see if they can get it done. I decided to hunker down and finish up the circle quilt for my soon-to-be-born niece. I just finished the last few inches of binding hand-sewing this morning:

Here's the back:

I'm still planning to add a label, but I consider it finished anyway.
Sometimes finishing a big project is a bit like finishing a good book... I'm happy to be done, but a bit sad that it's over, too. Does anyone else ever feel this way?

  2. Beautiful quilt! I guess I feel similar as 1st comment: I am glad & happy that something is done (and I can start something new again...)

  3. Vicki, I love the quilt! The fabrics are beautiful. You are so talented. I know what you mean about finishing a project though and it is bittersweet.

  4. Your circles are lovely, but I think my favorite part is the happy, stripy binding.

  6. It's an amazing quilt Vicki! Perfect fabrics for a new baby! Yes, I sometimes hate the finish on quilts where I am enjoying the journey.

  7. vicki--absolutely perfect! great fabrics, love the backing, love the binding--could anything look better? really want to try this. do have a question about your tutorial for cutting the template. yours includes adding seam allowances, but the roundabout one and some others don't--they just cut out the pie shape out of the square and the concave part left over is the rest of the square. do you know how one works over the other?

  8. I seriously love this quilt! I've loved this design and I love the fabrics you used to go with it. I think I already told you this somewhere. Anyway, congrats on hunkering down!

  9. I know that feeling of finishing a project and feeling a little bereft - a few months ago, I finished a quilt AND a sweater. I was kind of a wreck for about a week. Maybe that's why I always have at least 5 projects in the works? I'll just keep telling myself that.

  14. The quilt looks amazing! I am about to start one just the same using pinks and reds for my sister in law's baby (due in a week and a half - so I might be a touch late!!). I hope mine looks as great as yours.

I know what you mean about coming to the end of a good book or a good project. For ages afterwards I just can't seem to get into anything new...

  15. I just love this quilt. Someday I'm going to have to learn to quilt rounded edges. Circle quilts are so wonderful. Great choice of fabrics :)
